Mulberry is a British fashion brand founded by Roger Saul in 1971. The story goes that the brand mulberry bagwas founded through a gift of 50 pounds from Rogers’ mother Joan. He started designing and selling his leather chokers and bets to high class fashion shops like Biba in London. With his first collection of belts there was a clear influence of saddler techniques. The materials he used were suede and leather made according to traditional English crafts. After his first year as a belt designer he made a big step towards becoming more and more known by accepting an order of a thousand belts for the Paris department store Au Printemps.

After that first order, Mulberry had expanded into Europa and started designing handbags for Kenzo and Bloomingdale’s.

The hallmark of Mulberry’s style was formed in 1976, when besides accessories also clothing was designed. The first jacket design brand marked Mullberry’s hunting, shooting and fishing style. Later Mulberry started to design women’s clothing as well and soon Mulberry became the largest manufacturer of designer quality leather accessories in Britain.

In 1987 and 1989 Mulberry received the Queen’s award for Export and started making home furnishing designs in 1991. The brand gained significant popularity and stores were opened in Russia, Italy, Chile, South Africa and Japan.

At the moment Mulberry has stores in 21 countries all over the world and is characterized with ‘refined elegance in clothing, accessories and home furnishings.
